The Teddy Lingerie Sizing Guide: How It Should Actually Fit
How to measure yourself for a teddy, how to translate your bra size into S/M/L, and the fit checks that tell you a piece is right before you cut the tags off.

The single most common reason someone returns a teddy is the same reason they return jeans: the size chart lied. Almost every teddy on Amazon runs at least a half-size small in the bust, and the S/M/L sizing hides how much stretch (or how little) is actually in the lace. Here's how to size for a teddy without gambling.
Measure four numbers
Grab a soft tape and, in a well-fitting bra:
- Underbust — snug band, just under the bust.
- Bust — around the fullest part, tape parallel to the floor.
- Waist — the narrowest point above your belly button.
- Hip — the fullest point across your seat.
Those four numbers beat every "S/M/L" chart on Amazon. Match them to the brand's own chart (never the "general" chart) and always size up if you land between two.
Bra size to teddy size, roughly
Amazon brands like Avidlove and Aranmei use letter sizing that maps loosely to US dress sizes. As a starting point (verify with the brand chart):
- S ≈ 32A–34B, dress 2–4
- M ≈ 34C–36C, dress 6–8
- L ≈ 36D–38D, dress 10–12
- XL ≈ 38DD–40DD, dress 14
- 1X and up ≈ 40DDD+, dress 16+
The five fit checks
- Cups sit flat. No gaping at the top, no bulging at the sides. If the lace is puckering, it's too big; if the cups are digging, it's too small.
- Straps hold without shoulder pain. You should be able to slip a finger under; anything tighter will leave a mark within an hour.
- Back band is level. If the band rides up in back, size down. Not up — up will make the bust worse.
- Waist sits at your waist. Not on your ribs, not on your hips. When it's right, you'll be able to see the natural shape of your torso through the lace.
- Snap crotch closes without pulling. If snapping it hikes the whole piece up, the torso is too short. Return.
Petite and tall
Teddies are drafted for a 5'5"–5'8" torso by default. If you're petite (under 5'3"), look for adjustable-strap styles — the extra inches let you shorten the torso. If you're 5'9"+, prioritize pieces with a snap crotch on stretch elastic (not fabric); it gives an extra inch of torso length without pulling.
When to size up
Almost always. Amazon lingerie runs small; European lingerie runs smaller. The only time to size down is if the brand has a documented reputation for running large (Cosabella, occasionally Fleur du Mal) — and even then, only when your measurements land clearly in the smaller size.
